This is an interesting, and rarely seen piece, with respect to those tang markings.

At first, I was very skeptical about a connection with Dinger and the stamping. I couldn't rectify why Dinger would have involved himself with simple blade forging, especially for a large manufacturer like Eickhorn.

So, I thought about, and thought about it some more, did some research and contacted a collector who's quite knowledgeable about the damascus bladesmith artisans like Muller and Dinger- if he thought there could be a nexis between Dinger and a plain jane Eickhorn fliegerschwert.

After his explanation, and more thought and research, here's the explanation i've come up with:

This piece belonging to Pam is not your regulation size fliegerschwert. It doesn't fall into any of the prescribed sizes of schwert. Infact this blades length is shorter. As such, the shorter blade would not have been rolled out. The blade would have been hand forged for essentially what amounts to a special order. For a time Dinger was under the employ of the Eickhorn firm and because of his expertise in hand forging, he cranked out this special order blade, and was permitted to stamp the tang with his monogram.

So that's the deal. Initially I was skeptical about a Dinger connection, but now I am a 100% believer in that Dinger did indeed forge this fliegerschwert blade.

Not sure what it would do to value if anything at all. That said, it's a neat little, odd, and hard to come by example. Something scarcely seen.
