    SS M 36 Chain Dagger W/Provience

    Well Keen SS Collectors.

The "Sun" is on the way down ,and i finally shoot this pics of my M 36 i have in my collection. I have made up some pics of this before. But now fresh new pics.
    ------------------------------------

The dagger was found in OSLO in Norway after the War into a Villa. Only one collector had have this before me. He buy it direct from that family 25 years ago i think.

One of the upper chain link are repaired orginally by the SS officer having this..( that time period) You can see the colour differnces

The blade is 100% Pristine mint and the grip are made out of nice Ebony. The SS Rune have a light colour of gold .

    Type II chain.

    Enjoy the pics.

Now tha's the way you want to get them. Original Near mint - not brought back to near mint.

        A beauty LH - Congrats!

Any idea what SS unit stayed at the Villa?

As usual, you've made people jealous The runes look like copper based. I used to have one chained SS with the same type "short runes" made of copper (see below, pictured by JR). But how can you tell the grip is ebony? I haven't found ebony grip on any SS dagger that I've handled so far. Is it real Ebony (very heavy, that sinks in a water?) or just so called "ebony" - a popular term in collector world describing just the black stained wood?

                    Hi 777

Im glad you like it. yes the SS rune is the same as your pics

I meant the ebony stained wood grip.

Grips are made of a dark ebony wood. In many cases this wood has too much brown grain and was dyed with a black vegetable pigment to give the grip a black appearance. Late into the period some of the later grips were in fact a plain oak wood with black pigment.

We collectors have many "names" on things you know

OK, I understand, but according to Fisher and confirmed by my private study mostly the pear wood and sometimes beech wood were used as the ones which absorbed the black stain best and had uniform structure (less grain). Oak wouldn't be the best choice for black handle. Anyway, ebony, pear, oak or whatever - we all agree the SS grips are one of the kind and after you handled few SS daggers in your hand you'll always recognize "the feel" of an original grip.

Ralf and co-author Sven Georgi are busy guys and there is still new photo material and info coming to them, so it's hard to tell. Early next year maybe.
