Thanks for the vote of confidence Tom I've never seen the marking previously so I can't say from personal experience what I think of it. The fact George W. says he's had one that he believes to be period is good, however I tend to heavily scrutinize any such marking particularly if it's purported to be SS issue or SS related. On this piece, I know Dachau opened in 1933 but did they start manufacturing items such as frogs that early? Questions like this, intended to disprove the item are a very good way to find out if an item has a factual goof in it.

With fakers working night & day to fool us simple minded collectors, it's good practice to generally be skeptical when purchasing any such attributed item as many are merely plain things tarted up to sell. I usually say this about dress bayonets with unusual grip emblems affixed but I believe the same holds true with markings like this. Tread lightly unless the item is cheap IMHO.
