Eickhorn NSKK with Anodized Scabbard

Hey guys don't have a picture right now but I looked at an NSKK, very nice early Eickhorn marked, but with an anodized/blued scabbard this weekend at a local antique show. It was all very nice fit together well with all matching patinas ( very litt. I have heard of some of these early daggers, rarely coming with anodized scabbards, wondering if there are any makers that this would have coordinated with or any other signs to look for to see if the match is original?

No thoughts? I felt this would he an interesting question as that I've always heard rumors of anodized Nskk scabbards.

I've never seen one I'd believe. If you were lucky, maybe you found an SA dagger that a vet found an SS scabbard for, and brought home. But like I said, most dagger guys would hesitate in believing an anodized NSKK being wartime. Just my opinion unless things have developed.

you think that the value of an NSKK with an anodized scabbard would be a less collectible and valuable piece?

Never say never...if it all fits tight and patina matches then Why not.Could have been a Very early NSKK but also could have been an SS transfer out to NSKK.

Tom is right on here guys.
IMHO some early NSKK's came with anodized scabbards. Many were changes the painted scabbards over the years and the scabbards used on SS daggers by enterprising individuals. Finding one in todays market is a prized for sure.

This used to be a "standard fix" to upgrade an SS dagger with a so so scabbard.

I could use a nice scabbard for my 120/34 SS..... To bad that SS needs the shorter upper fitting... Really though, I'm going to look at this dagger, the nskk, again tommorow and if I get it ill post up some pictures and see if I made a mistake! It is quite a beauty though in my mind, only negative was the SA roundel was a little "red" with some "staining?" i guess you could call it, i assume from it being rubbed by same hand that rested on the darker "red" grip?! Maybe ill just buy it and display the scabbard with my SS and hope nobody notices....

I have found two NSKK Daggers with anodized blue scabbards over the years directly from the veteran. They did exist, but are rather rare IMO.

Well here is the piece I had looked at! got some pictures! Not exactly what I thought but still a piece worth discussion. For one, the hanger: I can see small amounts of black something "paint"? on the underside of the leather and nickel buckel, is this acceptable as a transitional change or bad? Second how does the dagger look as well as well? Its got the larger Eickhorn mark with a nice eagle, unturned nut, decent fits, and a great blade. Overall it appears to be a nice dagger, blade to crossguard perfect, scabbard to dagger pretty good as well. Opinions welcome and appreciated!

No worries, the same as EP&S daggers, the120's appear in the scabbards with standard upper fitting.
NSKK in blued ("anodized") scabbard? I found once an early piece with old black paint over original black finish. It's possible that some NSKK men could make their scabbards black by other means than painting. Remember, many of them were skilled mechanics and blueing machine parts is not a 21st century invention. In such case the scabbard may look different than factory blued SS scabbard with protective Zapon laquer finish.
The "red" colour on SA roundel seems like visible part of copper basis (hard to tell from that picture anyway).

thanks for the comments! I really like this dagger, especially the unusual scabbard. So are you saying this appears to be a non-factory anodization? It looks like nothing i've ever seen, is this a positive or negative attribute in your guys opinions? What about the clip, anyway have any ideas if its legit black, with the black on the nickel buckel and underside as pictured? The Roundel isn't too bad, it was just a bit dirty, literal grime and dirt reting on the bottom were its slightly sunken into the grip.
