K98 short dress bajonet

If you are asking if it is original, it is. It is a good maker. But from the pictures looks like the finish is all gone from the top of the bayonet, but blade looks in great shape.

It looks like there is never bin a finish, is this usual?

I would say that your KS98 never had a plated finish on the hilt. Probably made late with a polished finish to the white metal cast hilt. Notice that the casting marks are still visible and never received a good final polish. Sometimes this is an indication of a postwar reproduction but I think yours is original but of low quality.
