    SS dagger issue question

I was curious in a time span of an SS man how many daggers he would have been issued or re-issued. For example in wittman's book he has Teddy Wisch's dagger on page 80/81 eickhorn full inscribbed dagger, if you check out

same dagger, service number is the same dagger looks semi decent although i think the dagger might not have went with the scabbard hence the runner marks, im just curious thank you

Problem with a numbered dagger like that is unless you have absolute provenance with it, it's only stamped numbers. There seem to be many stamped traceable SS serial numbered daggers in the last few years to the highest leaders, divisional, along with KC winners.

I've seen already too many Teddy Wisch daggers for my lifetime.

To me only, this one is not worth $10,000 more because of that serial number.

That works for me. In fact a lot of otherwise legitimate TR items have been ruined as completely legitimate artifacts with postwar added markings.

As for: “Serial number under lower crossguard is stamped deeply with European punch die marking as is proper for SS officer grade marking.” What is that supposed to mean? That the style of the stamp, and its application was only for SS Officers? And the proof for that statement? (I also don’t like the grip chipping at both the top and bottom, which looks relatively fresh as compared to the dagger itself - but that's a another matter.) FP
