A silly question, but does the black handle mean anything ?
Is it for a special unit or just a private variation ?
To take it a step further... its a simple handle to make, how does one know if it is period, or fantasy ?

I have not begun to understand anything about German Daggers, let alone Russian ones.

                Chris,

That is a loaded question !

                1. These grips are period. There isn't allot written about world daggers let alone Russian. This is also the first naval that anyone has ever viewed.

                2. as to unit????/ im guessing naval marine

I would suspect something more "removed" from the navy, like Naval Border Guards (actually KGB) or Harbor Police. The only photos I can find of Marine Infantry show the standard naval grip, which is shown below.

This is called the "ripe banana" for obvious reasons! Another product of the prolific ZIK company, this one dates from 1958, and shows crude reworking on the left side of the seal where 8 Republics' ribands were reduced to 7 (matching on both sides) in 1956.
