    Combat bayo question

Picked up this bayonet with some other german and us
items today, Was wondering about the markings and what
they refer to. There is a stamp on the wood grip I can't quite make
out, very faint. The frog is marked 1940, and seems to have been
with the bayo for along time, there is also some white paint residue
on the scabbard. Also waht is the marking under the grip, appears
to be name but I can't make it out.

    thanks for any help

The bayonet is Polish - someone much more knowledgable will tell you exactly which model it is.

IIRC recall, the Poles didn't blue their bayonets - at least not the two I used to own. !

"WP" - Polish military marking - Wojsko Polskie = Polish Army.

      "Perkun" - factory marking.

Site on Polish bayonets (in Polish but has pictures - links to other models at bottom of page.

Hope that is of some use.

I would say that what you have is a Polish M1924 or M1927 reworked by th Germans during WWII. The Poles, as Richie said, did not blue their bayonets. The fact that the grip screws are installed backwards and it has been blued all over and mated with a German scabbard and frog, I would have to say that this is a German capture bayonet. You may want to really look it over hard especially the spine, and see if you can find a WaA stamp on it somewhere. Sometimes there are, most times not.

        Hope this helps,
        Jim

Jim is right its a Wz.24 bayonet reworked by germans probably, the press button should be probably sloted too, there should be no WaA on the piece.

            Thanks guys,
here's a few more pics, there's a stamping between the bolts, it's round
but can't make it out, and then there looks like a stamp near the slot
            marked "S" and "T"??

Any value to this piece, I don't plan on selling it but was curious.

            thanks

            Press button is slotted

Original Polish bayonets tend to go for good prices - and I don't think you see many German modified bayonets so I reckon you could call it quite rare.

Not sure what current price would be as I don't actually recall seeing one for sale.

              Regards

I believe you are right Andy, it was not a WaA I remember seeing, but a kriegsmarine property mark.
