HJ Knife - some details

Hi:

Just picked up a HJ knife. Looks identical to another I have which is a known original (came from the vet himself when he gave it to me - no concerns on it at all). However, I have 3 possible problems....

The newly acquired knife does NOT have any markings on the blade at all. I would have thought the blade should have a RZM mark (somewhere)??

Further, the leather handle holding clip has the words "STOCKO" stamped into the inside of the female end of the clip. The original knife I have does not have anything stamped into the clip.

The two handle bolts (wrong word sorry) that holds the black checkered grips to the knife shaft are rounded and are raised ABOVE the grip by about 1/2 mm. On my original knife the bolts are flush to the grip.

I bought the second knife at a local auction sight unseen (I was away at the time) and my gal friend bid for me - but I had to pay

Appreciate any comments regarding whether the knife is a known fake (from the points mentioned).

Sounds like a late war unmarked hj knife to me, Stocko marked on the button stud is a genuine known maker of snap buttons for hj knifes, please post pix of your knife?

Thanks MAC 66 for the positive comments. I'll try and get a snap taken on the weekend and upload. Camera is not here at the moment. I am not that knowledgeable on HJ knives as they are not my main collecting stream. Willow

I agree, lot of those late ones lost their rzm
markes over time.

As I said earlier, for all intensive purposes if this knife did have a RZM mark I would not be doubting it. Now that I know the clipsis a genuine clip from a known company I feel a bit better. I am not too fussed about the grip bolts (whatever they are called) as I have seen flat and rounded bolts in the past on other genuine HJ knives. Willow

Willow, grip bolts you mention are "Rivets" made of various metals, steel, solid nickle, aluminium, zinc

DUH - yeah OK rivets.... Sounds much better

I didn't know about the differing metals for the rivets. Seems that they altered depending on what was available at the time of manufacture.

Do you happen to know the year when they ceased using the motto on the blade??

I ask as my other HJ knife (vet given) has the motto. Thanks, WilloW
