Question about portepee?

I got this sword today, and this portepee was on it. It looks like it was on it for a long time. I am not sure if this is a good one for this sword, all the ones that I saw were black with no red in it. So any info would be appreciated.

David is right, the knot is for a police sword. How it got there is anyone's guess whether original to the piece or added subsequently.
