Eickhorn Municipal Police Bayonet & Frog

    Eickhorn Municipal Police Bayonet & Frog

    This Eickhorn came in today with a couple of sabers. I'm not a blade guy but I assume it's Municipal Police (unslotted) by the black color of the frog. The frog marked "Carl Hepting & Co STGT Feuerbach 1942" It's the standard 13" blade.

    The scabbard leather and nickeled end cap is in great condition, as is the blade but there considerable verdigris to the nickel plating in the grip area.

    My question is how badly does the green/degradation of the nickel plating effect the value of this piece?

          It is still a great looking piece, even with the damage it has. That shows you that that frog was there from the begining. I think that green can be clean little bit too so it will look better, if you leave it there it will continue to damage the bayonet.
          It will affect the value but not a lot in my opinion.

              Nice double oval Eick maker mark. Most of these we see are marked with a "P" designation on the reverse. Sometimes the verdigris eats into the nickel plating leaving pits, I'm not sure if that's the case here. Try a little simichrome on a rag to see if you can remove it. Don't try too hard as it is abrasive.

                Just noticed this mark on the blade. What might the 'K' represent?

                  The "K" is something I've seen as well, I believe the spine markings are usually Weimar era inspection marks, certainly the starburst mark is. Sometimes inventory numbers from the NS zeit can be found there as well.
