Interesting Dress Bayonet- Opinions Wanted

Hey All,
I've recently found an interesting K98 Dress Bayonet at a local shop. It's priced high, but it's still an interesting piece. Anyway, I was mostly wondering about the cloth wrapping around the scabbard. Anyone ever seen an embroidered eagle/swastika that looked like this associated with a dress bayonet? It looks original, I've just never seen anything like it. If I remember correctly, the full text is something like "Voere". The bayonet itself also has a maker's mark I haven't seen. While I can't remember the full maker's name, it was marked "Solingen" and had a stamped image of a standing, full suit of armor. Sorry guys, didn't have too long to look at it to get (or remember) better details. Overall, it was in pretty good condition, complete with correct frog.

Just curious if anyone has ever seen something like this. Chime in if you know something.

it is police eagle what I can see from the picture. And the bayonet is normal W.K.C dress bayonet.

Hi Dan,

Welcome to the forum. The patch is for a fireman's uniform. The name at the top would be the city, maybe Voerde(?). I can't quite tell from the picture if the bayonet has an S shaped crossguard. If it does, it's a fireman's dress bayonet. It sounds like the maker is Anton Wingen. Not sure what the patch would go for, but a similar bayonet would sell for less than $100 on ebay.

Tim nailed it completely. The cloth is a Feuerwehr uniform patch that someone added, probably the vet who brought it home. In any event, it wasn't the original fireman, that much is pretty clear. The bayonet looks OK in terms of condition but not something that would deserve a premium.

Regarding the maker mark, I'd agree that if it were a knight's head, it would probably be WKC (not always though) & if it's a full suited knight, it would be Anton Wingen.

Thanks for your input. I was aware the piece is way over market price, but was curious about the embroidered fabric around the scabbard. However, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I just double checked Anton Wingen's mark, and that is definitely the maker of this bayonet. It is certainly NOT WKC. It's a nice item, just overpriced. Perhaps I'll make an offer on it in the future.

Again, thanks for all your information, and for welcoming me to the forum. There is so much I need to learn in regards to Third Reich items. I'm branching outside of my comfort zone, for sure!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the crossguard is not "S" shaped. Also, checked out some period German fireman's uniforms, and the patch does indeed look identical. Again, thanks for the information. There's always something new to learn, and I'm sure that'll never change. It seems I'll have to direct any further inquiries about the patch to other sections of this site.

If the crossguard isn't recurned ("S" shaped), then it isn't a fireman's bayonet. This only solidifying the notion that the patch has nothing to do with the bayonet itself. Unless the seller is willing to come down substantially, I'd suggest you look elsewhere as IMHO, there are plenty of interesting bayonets out there without having to overpay.
