Well....these shots should be confirmation that this one needs to go to the fake id section, unless someone of major authority states otherwise. If you have any comments anybody, we are all ears....and it won't be long till they will eventually fixem.

I think thats a Good Spitzer.The Cracking would be the Zinc and I have a few originals missing the Rings.The Ones shown on the site are More crude.

Looks more like an early Spanish copy to me judging from the scabbard... Don't think the Chinese stuff is at this level... yet...

I’ve seen late TR zinc dagger components that would almost crumble to the touch. Parts that were undoubtedly made from an inferior alloy. Not being a serious medal collector myself, I think those who are refer to it as “Kriegsmetall”. There are also some side issues such as melt temperature versus casting temperature etc. etc. - with my point being that industrial processes back then were not as well controlled as we might expect today.

IMO what needs to be looked at first is not the metal parts as much as it is the grip. If it’s yellow/orange through and through it’s a fake. Not one of the cast phenolic resins used by TR era makers. That could save a lot of time. With the other things on the list like the blade tang and interiors of the parts (etc.) to follow up with (if needed). FP

Do you mean on the tang? (the makersd mark is shown) I will take some shots, and post the tang. It isnt the width of the fake , and has the billet clamp mark on the sides, but lets see what you think after i get em posted. Sorry ive been out, and havent gotten back to the posting till now. Thank you everyone for all the comments, as another collector friend also said the same , that he thought it also looked good. He said the mixture of the metals in the zinc amalgam if off would cause cracking after 25 years or so, and it reminds me of the marine raider knives ive seen that exibited the same symptoms. The grinds seem parallel, but ive seen good daggers with slightly angular grind marks also, and they were good. Ill take some shots of the handle disassembled also. I notice it has a smell to the handle, and is chipped in one spot but its tiny. You guys will have to be the judges, as im lost on this one, and if another shot is required , just ask, and ill get to it asap.

I can't see the logo (Spitzer) picture There is a small Photobucket square instead, telling the image has been deleted. I'm curious about the tang. The dagger can be also a mixture of original and fake parts. I've seen very similar dagger with fake blade with bad Höller logo (Solingen, not Berlin anymore).

Basically, the dagger itself looks good, but the scabbard has the pattern in the dots often associated with repros. JMO
