Jamie Cross (thirdreichmedals.com) has a HJ Olympic knife up for sale on his website. This is the 3rd I have seen on UK dealer websites so far this year. This is a rare item, and yet they seem to be comming out of the woodwork now, all in near mint condition with the paper issue packet. Are these legitimate, or is something going on that collectors should be aware of?

HJ Olympic knife question

The HJ/DJ based “Party Day” knives made their appearance before the “Olympic” knives, and in times past some fairly well known names in the hobby have made serious money selling them. Especially with the “Olympic” knives we see new or as new shipping bags. But not always, and now years later sometimes we see those with blades that are now ‘artfully’ aged.
Of course most don’t show obvious defects which are in the minority. But there are examples of knives in this category showing casting flaws. Others with inferior workmanship. And of course some where it can be seen that the etching was done over imperfect/damaged blades. With the etching and paint being on top of the defects - not underneath.
There is more, but I think that you get the picture - they are something to be avoided. FP

The guys selling them - say they are real.

But would respectfully submit for consideration:
The "two" camps can be defined as such:
1a) The guys selling them - say they are real.
1b) The guys who have sold them, and do not want to have to refund the money - say they are real.
The guys not buying them - say they are post-war.
