    SA Dagger Help

    http://s808.photobucket.com/albums/z...t=100_7186.jpg

Neighbor said this was her father's. Said he brought it back from WW2 with him--there is a WH belt buckle also. Any idea what it is possibly worth? While I am not a fan of edged weapons myself, I would like it. However, I wouldnt have a clue as to what to offer her for it.

I just uploaded pics onto my photobucket. Dont be offended--I have a bunch of replica stuff up there. I dont have time to make another photobucket account so just bear with me.

I cant get pics to post for some reason--they keep showing up as a red X.

No doubts, this is original early Max Weyersberg dagger in good condition. Scabbard looks to be of later production period, so it could have been switched at some point. We see early daggers with late scabbards from time to time and often it's impossible to tell if the scabbard was changed by the GI who brought the dagger home or by the original owner, the SA man, because the original scabbard was damaged. Daggers in such condition sell here on e-stand in $600-700 range, but you never know, sometimes the "market" is unpredictable. What you offer your neighbor is up to you, most important is the both parties are satisfied

Thanks 777 I appreciate it. I noticed the scabbard fits Tightly--Extremely well. I also see brown paint on the edges of the metal tip and upper part. But the scabbard itself doesnt really look as though someone painted it.

I know she was thinking BIG money, but after I looked at the wear marks, scratches and all I told her not to get her hopes up. Like I said, Daggers arent my thing~so even at $600 I couldnt afford it.

I'm surprised it would be that high--I mean, with all the scratches and all.

I am going to talk to her and see what she wants. I think she wants a grand, but when I tell her its not worth that much, I think she wilkl just keep it. Its not like she values it past the fact that it was her fathers. I am going to offer to sell it on ioffer or int militaria (if they are still around?)--Any one think these are good ideas? I just dont know what else to do for her. I would buy it if she wanted $50 or so...just to have it...but then I am sure I would just sell it.~
        Any suggestions?
        Thanks!

I personally would not pay any more than $350 for that dagger, take it or leave it.
Its nice, don't get me wrong, but not close to pristine. The back of the grip is flawed, the blade looks like it has been buffed, and the fittings are nicotine stained.
Some guys like that look, I suspect the majority see it as a flaw.
I think $600-$700 resale is quite a stretch. There are nicer daggers available for less, put it that way. I'd be looking to get $400-$500 max, and its not a sellers market for average SA's.
If shes thinking a grand, you'll have to tell her shes far off the mark, only absolutely pristine SA's sell for anywhere near $1,000.

I can understand sentimental value and all, but no one factors that into their offers.

Blade feels smooth--but it looks scratched up--like someone SOS'd it

If she wants a grand, forget it. She must decide if she wants to sell the dagger, or keep it to remember her father. If she prefers to sell it, she must get back to earth and accept realistic price. She should also understand that what dealers ask on their websites is totally different story from what she can get.
This situation is nothing new, it's like all those people who have 2nd class EK and think they have Ritterkreuz worth a fortune

The marks on the blade don't appear to be normal runner marks, so yeah I'd have to say that blade has been whizzed in some fashion.

By the way, if she thinks you are lowballing her, tell her to send pics to any dealer, and tell her to ask the dealer for an offer ,,, Or do it yourself.
I can practically guarantee you the offer will not be over $300.

Thanks Guys! I'm sure you guys are right on the mark~

I think the pics prolly make it look nicer than it is. She knows I'm an honest man so no worries about that--I'm sure is like you said--some peeps find an EK2 and think they will get a fortune from it..~

After talking with her, she said $500-$600...After I told her I spoke to the experts on here and explained condition and all that, she realizes what she has now.
I have it on ioffer for her right now. Someone offered $250 but she asked me to counter with $600. Which was declined.
