noob bayonet question on dates

Are all k98 bayonets/scabbards dated in some way?

I am trying to find a 1937 bayonet and scabbard and would like to know what to look for.

What would be a good reference book to get?

i have seen undated bayonets mostly late war i believe.
1937 bayonets imho would be well marked and dated

All bayonets issued to the forces have serial numbers, dates and manufacturers information.

You will come across some manufacturer marked bayonets which have no dates or serial numbers.

Some of these were police issue, some were for export and some were for organisations such as the Post Office, Customs and the railways, some of whose officers carried rifles and bayonets.

Some of these have unit markings which allow identification of the user.

Best birthday present i have gotten in a long time was the information you posted,I Have collected over 48 Seitengewehr so far and still going strong! 1936-1944 The best ones in my humble opinion are the 1936-37 I Own 12 absolutely Beautiful Machine work and bluing and pristine Bakelite
grips.

There are also the "K" and "G" dates being respectively 1934 and 1935. While I've seen Bakelite grips on German armory reworks. In my experience wood was used through 1937 with a possible exception very late in that year for at least one maker. With 1938 being all Bakelite, with maybe a very minor exception here and there.

Also, as Richie B mentioned, scattered here and there are the undated 'commercial' bayonets from very early, to late 1943/early 1944. With perhaps a minor exception here and there - all undated. FP
