I posted it first on GDc on the Hunting forum, but got zero feedback.
I bought this direct from the Vet family and the blade was still coated with Cosmoline when I obtained it. He was a supply Sergeant and it came with some other German items. I threw it back and now brought it out because we are packing to move. It's unmarked and I believe dates from the Imperial/Reichswehr era.
Has the over the shoulder strap still attached. It's not a high quality dagger and I doubt it was expensive at the time produced. Has an interesting slit frog to hold it in place. The blade cleaned up pretty nice. It has a nice etch and some of the plating is gone here and there mostly on the spine, but nothing real bad. The blade to scabbard fit is not the best, since it does not push in all the way to the hilt.
Any clue as to manufacture or date would be appreciated. I have some photos before and after it had the Cosmoline cleaned off.
Thanks!
