    choice between 2 sa daggers

    hello guys
I must make a choice between these daggers which would choose.
can you make an estimate ??

    first (RZM M7/49 )

    second (anton wingen jr)

    thank you very much

Honestly, save your money for a decent dagger. Both are poor, messed up with (restored by someone who didn't know how to do it right) and look like parts daggers. The one that should be most attractive, the early A.Wingen has very bad crossguard to grip fit, Th group marking (known also as "Gau marking") is not correct for this maker (according to Fisher and McSARR), rough painted scabbard with late fittings doesn't make it more attractive either. The other one has several problems as well. So, my friendly fellow collector's advise is: keep your money, save some more if necessary and buy the dagger that you will always be happy with.

i would choose another dagger than these two. Both look to have been messed with. Both with very tired blades.

Price is everything, if the price was right I'd take both.
Somewhere in the area of $250-$300 for common, flawed daggers.

If you have to make decision I will go with the early one(second one). But like it was said both are in bad shape.

Offer the guy $200 a piece because that is all they are worth. Like it was said previously they look like parts daggers with really bad blades. Good luck. By the way how much were they asking for these? Cheers, Raul

There are a number of ways to look at this, two people may not agree, but that doesn't mean one is right and the other is wrong.

I look at it this way - You could get $150 to $200 for the scabbard alone on ebay.
I don't look at parts daggers/daggers with problems as scum, to be avoided at any costs.
They are what they are, and will never be anything different ,, And, so long as composed of original parts, are still bonafide historical objects with value.

                  Could you do better ?
Sure, much better - All depends on how much you're willing to pay.
You can get a mint, bag & tagged dagger for 10x the price.
I like the grip on the 2nd one, I'd pay $250 in a heartbeat, and would consider $300.

Thats just me, so you'll have to work out your feelings yourself, remembering not to be overly influenced by what anyone says, including myself.

For me the answer is neither. The second one is an early model with a later scabbard. There's hardly enough salvageable parts to recoup even a minimal financial outlay.

I agree that breaking it apart and selling it for parts can be profitable but that point of view clashes with my beleifs. I assume that most of us are aficionados of history and want to preserve history. Taking apart a dagger just to make a buck is a contradiction to those beliefs. Those daggers should stay the way they are. They are the perfect starting point for a beginning collector with limited funds. I would just pass and let some other guy take them. JMHO, Raul.

Bravo, Raul! Well put. Thanks for this - as it was going through my mind as well. These daggers, though in poor condition, should not be broken apart.

I'm 100% against breaking daggers apart to make few bucks more on ebay, but the problem is that "A.Wingen" is already a set of parts. If you want to preserve such "history", no problem

Hello rgaraymd, at least 1 is already a parts dagger, so your logic doesn't apply.
I was simply proposing a scenario, just about everyone roundly rejected these out of hand but me, I would justify getting one on the grounds that I could nearly make my $$ back with the scabbard alone on ebay, if I had to.
Never said that was my intention, and I've never sold dagger parts in my life.
In fact, if no one is willing to buy these for any price because they have flaws, then they'll more than likely end up in pieces anyhow.

I agree that they could be " the perfect starting point for a beginning collector with limited funds." ,,, But since we aren't aware of what these are proposed to sell for, even that cannot be established.
