    Matching Bayonets

    Hi,
    Know this may sound like a silly question, but were all Soldaten issued matching bayonets & scabbards or were some issued mis-matching pairs?

    I would guess that originally they were issued as matching sets which is how they came out of the factory.

    However towards the end of the war when things became rather more confused, I suspect that they may have got mixed up in some cases.

      Additionally, mix-ups occurred as a result of loss. damage, carelessness, etc. I seriously doubt that the men in the filed placed as much importance on matching numbers as we collectors do.
