Its a genuine early hj knife by Waffenfabrik Max Weyeserberg , seldom seen maker imo.

My guess is the mottos been worn away with ware, buffing, ect.

huge maker mark, worthy keeper / restoration job with that mark, i dont remember seeing that one previously
