What period is this hunting sword? What do the cyphers on the blade mean?

1. What is the L with the crown over it for?

2. Was this an award of some kind?

3. What period is it from 1880s?

4. What is the approximate value of it?

The crowned L would indicate one of the Ludwig's who ruled this land. It would most probably be a cutlass for a State Forest Warden and not an award. It could be from before or after circa 1870 as there were many Ludwig's to try to narrow it down.
