        Going by my old German bayonet book by John Walter it appears to be a S84/98aA converted from an S71/84 about 1900 and 1905.I think the R marking on the crossguard is for an Infantry reg;
        They were issued to the machine gun companies of the line infantry regiments,cyclists and stocked for the reserve infantry regiments during the time in which the Gewehre and Seitengewehre 98 were being distributed.

              Dave

              Unit mark = 3rd Reserve Infantry Regiment. 2nd Company. Weapon no 245.

              Is there a date on the back of the blade ?

              Regards

                      Interesting markings - almost a match !

                      3. R. 2. 245 and 3. R. 3. 245

                      Only one company apart.

                      Regards

                        Looks like it was made in 1887 King Wilhelm 1(1861-1888).I have an unconverted S71,but apart from the makers mark (Simson&Co suhl)there are no unit markings.You have a nice bayonet.
