    Strange Sword Bayonet???

    Hi All,

What kind of sword / bayonet is this? It is very similar to a Colt revolving bayonet I had a few weeks ago. It has a wood handle and looks almost confederate to me but I am not sure. Minus the paint its nice!

    Help Please!!!

Looks to be a British Cutlass bayonet.

There were several different models - what it the internal diameter of the muzzle ring ? - that might help identify it more exactly.

    Time period 1850-1870.

On this site is one model - possible use by Confederate Navy.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Regards

    Richard

This is far too well-made for most Confederate manufacture. I agree it's likely of British manufacture; in fact, that blob on the blade in the last picture reminds me of one of Wilkenson's marks.

I will strip the paint off in the next couple of days and see what it is.

        Thanks!
