    SA v. NSKK

    SA vs. NSKK dagger

    Which would you buy, which do you own, and why is it better.
    Which is more valuable, and which will be more valuable in years to come?

      Hello and welcome to WAF. I've owned several SA but never an NSKK. Why? Because the condition of the daggers I bought exceeded those I did not. To me the value is not in the scabbard (brown vs. black) nor organization (SA vs. NSKK) but in the blade. If you are asking these questions because you are thinking of buying your first may I suggest that you familiarize yourself with an article written by WAF member Paul Hogle and available on his web site.

      Scroll all the way down and it's on the left side...How to pick an SA dagger. It will give you some good information from which to build a knowledge base.

            Hi, I have owned each type over the years Sa/Nskk and condition always played a great part in what I purchased. Many Nskk types have period diy hand painted black scabbards, and most are very rough and not very pleasing to the eye. I will agree with what stu has said also, the condition of the blade plays a huge part in purchasing the right dagger. This is true for any edged weapons really and after the blade its the condition of the rest of the dagger that makes a true NM/Mint dagger IMO. I Have only one TR dagger left in my colection as I have sold off the rest over the past few years and thats a no "bull****" NM full Rohm SA with original hanger in NM condition also that was worn for a very short time by the SA man then hidden out the way. I love this dagger and I am very proud to own such a beautiful piece of history! So go for as clean and un-messed with SA or Nskk dagger that you can find and you cant go wrong!!

              I don't believe there is any difference value wise with all things including condition being equal. Obviously if an NSKK had a roughly hand painted scabbard that that would affect value to most. SAs & NSKKs are generally priced the same from the dealers' sites I've seen. I once asked Mike McAlvanah, author of the MCSARR SA dagger list, this same question & how he valued/graded NSKKs as opposed to SAs. Mike felt there was no difference between the two in terms of value & collectibility. If you want just 1 to start out with, my suggestion is buy a non RZM piece in the best condition you can find with a good overall unfooled with appearance. Chances are you won't lose money.
