    Whittmanns New SA Book.

Guys i emailed Thomas T. Whittmann & asked him when his long awaited SA book will come out & got this email from him.

    Dear Scott,

Thanks for your email. I hope to complete the SA book this year and get it to the printer early next year. I appreciate your patience - it has taken me too long to do this book. I am sure it will be worth the wait, however. Hang in there!

    Best,

    Thom,as T. Wittmann

So ... buy SA daggers this year ... since some people say, that after the release of TW´s book the prices for SA daggers will explode

Wittmann & Johnson have already done books on just about every type of TR dagger, knife, you name it. If one more makes prices 'explode', we only have ourselves to blame (IMO).

        Implode is more likely

I posted one of the rarest pieces with a super clean blade...completely unaltered and didnt get an offer. So No offense to TW but Crap or get off the pot.We had the same stories for the SS book...and it was released a good 2 years after HIS official date of release.

Is there any other book that compares to T.W's -SS tome? Was it worth the wait?

The SA/NSKK book will probably have to be a two volume deal. (I don't have any inside info) - It's just a guess considering the volume of photos and unique daggers that will encompass a complete analysis of the topic.
Everyone I know that has a unique SA or NSKK has given it to Tom for Pro Photos. All I can say is it is a LOT of daggers.

Either way I'll get it when it comes out. Sure I'd like to have it already but there aren't any other books I'm waiting over like this one. Like Wags says, there was a lot of bull**** before the SS book came out but it's still a good "go to" tome. I'm not an SA guy really, got 3 or 4 of 'em but I did manage to get a salty Marine SA to Tom for pics.

Maybe that's well known to you experienced dagger guys but it's news to me. Can you advise which ones or pages so that I might learn more please.

I like the Books TJ did..The Wittman Novels are a bit over the top...They include some great info along with a LOT of General Padding...you see this in the successive Volumes as they get Progressively larger.Lots a Braggadocio and if its pictured in the book its Got a built in Provenance. Not much of an actual author as much as a Gatherer of Pics.

I purchased my copy of the SS book before it came out. And am sorry to say that while Tom Wittmann's SS book has some good information and some very nice pictures. It also has some high end fakes. Misinformation, a lack of specifics, and other oversights (etc.) that should not have happened (IMO).

And that like most books. Once it is published it is used to justify fakes, and perpetuate conclusions that have no basis in fact. That said - I think that this time I would want to look at it before buying. FP

Love the use of the terms "Once it is published it is used to justify fakes, and perpetuate conclusions that have no basis in fact." That is the awful truth about the hobby...once its published who knows whats what.

Can you elaborate as to the fakes? Pages they are on in the Luftwaffe and SS books?

                          Regards,
