    HJ knife M 7 / 12 , 1939 . What do you think ?

I can buy this HJ knife. That would be my first. Its from M 7 / 12 1939 without the " devise ".

What do you think about this knife? Its in a really good condition. You can move the HJ sign a little, its not glued or something.

This has been posted before, but start here: http://www.lakesidetrader.com/HJlesson.html

The RZM & Date are a big give away... just compare that to originals and you will see.

You mean the RZM stamping and the Date is not correct? Where I can find this RZM mark with this date to compare?

            Not an original knife.

It would be nice if you could post some better pictures directly on the forum: both sides of the complete grip with grip rivets need to be verified.

But here is some good and some bad news:

+ From what I can see, the knife appears to be original and the blade is original for sure: WMW (Waffenfabrik Max Weyersberg) was the only firm that marked his blades with some kind of ink via a gummy stamp. You can find these knifes with the years 1939 to 1942. Most of those have lost their ink marking and now appear to be unmarked blades.

              - The diamond has been replaced: an original small version diamand (pre 1937) has been set into a big diamond placement.

              - The scabbard appears to have been repainted.

              Best regards,

              Victorman

Checked the grip via the full screan pictures: it is fine!

You have an original HJ knife by WMW with a replaced (but also original!) diamond and a repainted scabbard (which is quite common on original knifes).

The blade of your knife is in top condition, which is not that easy to find.

                Best regards,

                Victorman.

victorman is an HJ knife expert.
If he says your HJ knife is "period" then that is good news for you.
I hereby then bow to the greater knowledge and retract my above statement.

However also what victorman is saying is that "Yes it's authentic,"
but because of the repainted scabbard and replaced diamond it is not what most of us would consider "collector grade".
And before you ask "If I replace the diamond....", it will never be collector grade because it needs to have the original diamond and sport the original finish. -JMO-
