I dont collect these nor wish to keep it(yes my aunt is aware) but what is it? i guessed German Army due to the German cross on the scabbard and the maker mark Eickhorn but im purely guessing here, any help appreciatted, Sean

You have a German Army ordnance saber. It was the standard item of issue sword that was given to Sr. NCOs and Officers who required a sword for the performance of their duties. It is not a private purchase sword and the cross decal is postwar applied from a model airplane. The G date indicates it was made in 1935.

I see these sell in the $300 price range for nice examples with matching numbers on the hilt and scabbard.

                          Nice sword.

I'm sure you realise the markings on the scabbard are a much later addition.

Shouldn't detract from the value too much I hope.

                          Good luck with the sale.

Thank you, hopefully somebody will want to acquire this, my uncle has/had the Normandy medal as well as the other WW2 general service medals so it must have come from his escapades at that time, thanks Shupo also Sean
