    SS Dagger Gottlieb Hammesfahr Repro?

I had the opportunity to purchse this SS dagger by Gottlieb Hammesfahr.
When I heard they may be reproducing them in Europe (Eastern?) I passed.
These are all the pictures I have. One comment I heard is the maker appears to be lazer vs. acid etched. Another maybe the cross-graining is wrong. Grip too new? etc.
Did I pass on a good dagger?
Here's the link to my pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/40389556@N08/

    Thank You.
    Bill

    Hi Gunther,

    this one looks suspect.

    Scabbard looks like new.
    I don't like the Motto,/Lasercopy i'm sure.

    etc.

    Regards,
    Rheingold

There are several threads on these possible repros on the GDC forum. If you look there you may learn more about the hallmarks of these new fakes.

I think that ricasso and motto there are too much perfect. Laser manufactured?

I agree. This was indeed already discusssed on GDC. Also with an SA blade of Hammesfahr. The crispness of the lines are going ways father then what's possible with acid edging IMO.

            Theo,
What do you mean my "SA blade of Hammesfahr"? Surplus blades never etched during the war? Or?

            Thanks,
            Bill

I think Like the other members here that the blade is not acid etched. And there also exist Hammesfahr SA blades with the same characteristics. It's not good IMO. I think somewhere In Germany they are very busy again

The trademark looks laser-etched but I can't tell for certain with these photos. Blade shoulder to crossguard fit is not too good either. I'd pass.
