Please don't take this as me insulting anyone's intelligence regarding these police Degens, everyone who has helped clearly has more knowledge then I, I am just trying to understand the differences.

I was trying to understand the differences in the grip emblem. I found what was explained by the solid shield as opposed to the open shield. I also found other differences with the shield, but like you Billy G I will not disclose, please message me and I will explain to you my findings and you may correct me from there. Please note these two shields, minus how clean one is versus the other.

These clam shells are also off the same dagger and both have the "melted" appearance as described earlier.

Please, again, I am learning and trying to understand the differences. The dagger I am comparing to is from a very reputable dealer.
Thank you for any more guidance provided. Sorry for the different sizes in the pictures. I also still agree on the quality of the makers mark, although I did a few other P.D. Luneschloss marks on the interweb that were not of high quality

As an addendum, I knew I'd seen this piece before & it turns out I had. Fred Stephens' Reproduction?Recognition!, volume 2, has an identical reproduction etched Polizei clamshell on page 132.

The grip emblem appears to be the same sword type device used on the OP as well as the same incorrect scabbard fittings. The details are not so great in my copy so I cannot compare the blade etch but I see it is darkened & has the Polizei adlers flanking the obverse dedication like the subject example.
