    Ss em

Hello guys, I've got this EM SS dagger (RZM) - perfect mint piece. Can anyone tell me what does these scratched numbers mean, it is not the SS number since there are stops between the diggits, first it was: 62.43.1 then corrected to: 62.66.1
    All opinions welcome!
    Thanks

    Hi Lubo,

tha last number doesn't looks like a usual 1.

I mean the numbers what they are using in Europe.

    It appears like a "vet.marking".

    IMO.

I agree with the "vet marking" theory. Looks like it was done with one of those damned vibrating engravers. At one time I believe the engravers were available from some law enforcement agencies and people would get them and engrave ID #'s on their valuables (i.e., TV's, etc. and unfortunately, occasionally daggers). I have a Himmler SS dagger that underwent the same treatment. Fortunately, I have a friend who was able to remove the numbers without damaging the dagger.

Could be a museum catalog number. I've seen similar marks on former museum items, which are normally marked/numbered with paint.

          A Kind of inventory-tag !?

I would like to see other pictures of this nice SS dagger.
            Could you post some?
            Thanks,
            Bill
