      Pretty!

      VERY pretty dagger!

Isn't there any motto on the blade? I'm for sure no expert on this subject (or any other subject here for that matter ). I've been told though that the eagle symbol on SS daggers always are impeccable. SS daggers are said to be even better detailed than SA daggers. Those brown ones I believe?

The first batch of these SA daggers are supposed to be very beautiful as well. As war progressed, these daggers got made using less quality materials. I did not read or hear similar stories regarding SS daggers though.

So, the finish and craftsmanship of your dagger should be rrrrrealy nice and detailed. Also, time should not have been able to eat away at it much, if the dagger was taken care of properly, ofcourse.

Still, who am I to mingle here. My compliment is sincere though

      Very best regards,
      Karin-Renate

Looks to me as an original period Hammesfahr Model33 SS.

Looks original IMO based on the pictures.

It may have the handle replaced although all parts look original. Notice how the curve of the wood on the handle doesnt meet flush with the top crossguard, but is raised up just a little higher...but other than that, and the other side is a tiny tad lower than the guard on one side, pretty good on the other and shrunk slightly wich does happen thru time...width wise....other than those two points,Id say its pretty good . Maybe you can show a clear shot of those sections in better lighting, and we can see how close they are . many times people will replace a broken or damaged original handle with a less damaged one, thinking they will get mopre when they sell it... but one that doesn't always fit the dagger exactly correct, so i like em even damaged with the original wood. Still they are getting harder to find, but anyway i havent found one in a year..good dagger.

a picture is worth more than words

See how the lines meet gracefully and fit to the guard...thats what i like to see just that way.

                        last shot...overall for fit.

This also shows normal shrinkage thru time of the ss daggers handle width, and is acceptable as you can tell this handle even though rough from combat wear, ( as i know the story on this one)..this handle has never been replaced. Hope you don't take this the wrong way...its meant to help the original poster with the question, not the old timers..
