        The S98/05 continued to be used in WW2 by second line units and the police.

        George Wheeler in Seitengewehr refers to the existence of frogs like yours dated up to 1942 - hilts straps being rare.

        Later frogs can be found but these are the same design as the S84/98 only larger.

          My frog is dated 1943, but according to wheeler used up through 1942?

            What he is saying is that the latest date on the old type frog that he had seen is 1942 and the earliest of the new type is dated 1943.

            I would imagine that yours comes from the transition period from the old to the new.

            The old ones would still be used.

            Yours looks perfectly authentic to me.
