    PSS Police Bayonet Help

I picked up a very nice PSS police bayonet and, sadly, the aluminum eagle was removed.

Is there any hope of finding an original eagle, or even a beat up police bayonet from which to salvage an aluminum eagle?

    Hello Bob,

You might try Wittmann. A friend of mine recently sent him a "want" list of small items required to refurbish several dagger rigs and was quite pleased to learn Wittmann had them all available.

    Regards,

Bob, aside from Wittmann, check Johnsons site. He also has a large stock of replacement parts. I've had relatively good success purchasing period replacements parts from him. I would imagine locating a period replacement grip button for a police dress bayo shouldn't be too terribly difficult.

Thank you, Stu, Swordfish, and Tiger1, for the assistance. I have emailed the 'Two Toms' and hope for a match to my bayonet.

            Bob,

Always nice to see another PSS, thanks for showing it to us. They're really well made pieces that exude quality all the way. The rarity factor gives them a lot of sexiness too. The PSS would have an early, stubby wing grip eagle which isn't as easy a find as you might think. Remember too that some grip eagles had two prongs & some had three & you'd want a nice flush fit if you were to add one to this beauty.

Tom Johnson has a number of the later, wider winged grip eagles which were affixed to the obverse grip plate by a pair of either flat prongs or thin pins. I've purchased a couple from TJ over the years to fix up a previously denazified bayonet. I don't believe he has the early eagles but maybe they're just not on his site listings. Wittmann I'm not sure but emailing the two Toms would have been my suggestion too.

Who's the maker? Is it unit marked on the crossguard at all?
