Ground Rohm, basically a dagger that had a signed [etched] inscription from Ernst Röhm, SA commander and long time friend of Hitler.
When they had a falling out in 1934, it resulted in the Röhm Purge, in which he and most of his close confidants were executed.
Obviously, Hitler wanted to write his name out of existance, and the SA blades with his name on them were no exception. They were ordered to have the inscription ground off and, as you might imagine, most were.
A few examples survived intact, full Röhm's, rarest of all and the holy grail of SA's.
Some the name only, name only Röhm's.
Some partially intact, partial Röhm's - These can be as little as 1 letter, any visible remains of the inscription qualifies.
The vast majority were grounded off, as per orders ,,, This sometimes affected the makers mark also, sometimes not.
Depended on the makers mark and/or the quality of the grind.
Some are obviously crude, some so well you can hardly tell it was done.Last edited by Xray; 05-16-2009, 11:18 AM.
