SS Dagger without a maker mark?

Is it possible for an SS dagger to be authentic without a maker's mark? I have one that thoroughly matches the descriptions for either NSKK dagger or SS Officer dagger. There is no mark on the blade and if it is on the hilt it is not visible.

I imagine the first response will be to post pictures! I 'll do that tomorrow, just wanted to get a jump and find out if any were circulated without maker marks.

(The holder has RZM M5/71 and is in extra good condition, but I realize this doesn't validate the dagger.)

    Thanks.

    SS Dagger w/out makers mark

Pictures would sure help but if this is an early nickel/silver fittings dagger it may well be a ground Rohm, sometimes the makers mark was removed along with the Rohm inscription.

Yep, it's entirely possible... A small quantity were apparently made without maker marks and there was also some swapping of daggers and scabbards during the period. The Chained SS dagger had unmarked blades, so it would sometimes happen that the owner may have "preferred" his original blade and hilted it into his new chained scabbard and placed the unmarked blade into his old M33 scabbard.

You will need pics tho... so many things are possible with these...

I completely agree with Jo & Red, both scenarios are completely plausible but we'd need to see some pictures to have a better idea.

Here are some pics....both dagger and sheath are brown. Any and all info is very welcome as I'm considering selling it along with my Hitler Youth Blade.

The blade has no mark, was covered in greased and I found it to be in great condition when I wiped the grease off. I'm wondering if a mark is hidden under the oxidation on the hilt?

            Stunt,

What you have is an SA or Brownshirt dagger, not an SS dagger. From the look of the plated crossguards, I'm thinking this is a later production piece. Can we see a shot of the reverse blade, the side without the motto? If there was a maker mark, it would be near the crossguard. I'm thinking it's in a circle with an "RZM" & some numbers.

That looks like a late production SA, not SS dagger. It should have an RZM etch on the reverse of the blade. Can we see that angle please? What I'm looking for is can you show the spot on the blade where the maker's mark is supposed to be but is missing?

Hmmm. Take this dagger where the light is good and look very carefully at both sides of the blade. Does the surface finish appear to be the same front and back? Are the contours identical?

Peer down the length of the blade from the point end. Is the spine on the obverse side straight or does it have any wave to it? Notice any faint depressions?

I'm wondering if what you have is an early ground Rohm blade that was cobbled together with later grip parts. It wouldn't be the first time that pieces were mixed and matched. Otherwise, if all original, it's a bit of an oddball.
