    SA Dagger District Mark?

Hello Gentlemen, I have a question about district marks. I am looking at an SA dagger that is maker marked Sauer&sohn (which I understand to be a desireable maker) and it is marked with a "Mi" on the metal part under the handle. The owner said it is the distric mark for where it was issued for use. Is this true? What district would that indicate? He also said that early ones are district marked and not later ones. True? Is there a list of allthe district marks?
    Thanks in advance, Sal

Your friend is correct about the group marking.MI is for Mitte in the center of Germany.Your friend was also correct about later ones not being marked.A complete list of the Regional marks is in Fisher's Quick Reference book.

Hi Rich, Thanks for the quick response. On this dagger the I appears to be lower case, is that incorrect? How much does a Sauer&Sohn in nice shape tend to sell for? Thanks again, Sal

On my Sauer, the i appears small cased, but it's the same height as the M.I think I paid about $250 for mine(plus mine is a NSKK),but it was only in fair shape when I got it.

Here's what it looks like now, after a scabbard repaint and the scabbard fittings were replaced with nickel-silver ones.
BTW:Fisher's book lists Sauers as very common.

Hi Rich, Thanks for your responses. The one I am looking at has the same Mi you described although for a MUCH higher price. Did you buy your dagger recently or a while back? Your dagger is beautiful now and it scares me because if it was in someones hands who wouldn't disclose the info on it you did, I wouldn't know it had been restored. Is there a way to tell that it has? I'm new at this.
            Best Wishes, Sal

Hello Sal! I've had this dagger at least a year now.And as far as telling the redone scabbard from an original in mint shape would be very hard! The person who did mine is a real master,in my opinion!I suppose if you have had many years experience with these daggers and scabbards(which I DON'T HAVE YET!),one might be able to tell by the color.
