    SS dagger question

    Hello
A freind of mine has an SS dagger with the handle made of some kind of bakelite. Did the germans ever make period handles out of bakelite? My friend is convinced his dagger is real, but I am affraid it is not!

Hi Jean-Loup, you are correct in your thoughts. Any SS dagger with a non wooden grip is fake.
    Cheers, Ade.

Reproductions made in Spain almost always have the bakelite grips.

Chances are it could be a post war dagger (okay a repro, but not exactly), made with left over parts. They often used bakelite grips to finish the piece and then sell it to G.I.s stationed in Europe. They made nice presents for little brothers back home.

I know for fact that they did it with SA daggers,so I imagine that they also did it with SS daggers.
