    k98 bayonet

is there any characteristics that help tell you that a bayonet is original. I am a new collector and this bayonett is my first piece it has #7500 on both the blade and scabbard and also has "ab" on one side and 2299 b on the other. and on the sccabbard it has 41ffc??? also on the thickness of the blade it has 43 on it! any help wouldbe greatly appreciated thanks for your time!

Devin, very unlikely it is a fake. Only a few German s84/98s have been reported as being fakes, coming out of an outfit in India.
AB is the code for Mundlos, your scabbard is a different maker, although it is common to find mismatched pieces. From the factory they are supposed to match unless its late war then sometimes you have matching makers but mismatched serial numbers. The 43 on the spline means it was made in 1943.

Quite unlikely a fake. Expect to pay triple or more for a matching bayonet though. Really depends on rarity of the piece.

Hello Your bayo is probably a post war rework from one of east europe countries, serialed with new numbers, the blade was made by Mundlos and the bard by F.Herder. Mainly faked items are not 98k bayos. best regards,Andy from BCN
PS. What for original number have the bard?
