Paul, What's the length? LW had a 23 cm, Heer & SS a 42 cm. I don't think there's a difference between a Heer and SS dagger portepees, but I may be wrong.

I'm not certain ; I'm going by my reference book (Tom Johnson's Collecting Edged Weapons of the TR Vol 1).

This sure looks like a good, slightly worn Luft dagger portepee to me. It would be much too short for a Heer dagger.

Most reproductions have a base material under the threads on the acorn that will glow under blacklight. If the acorn threads are tight and don't easily separate revealing the base material, it's probably an original example.
