Another way to slip them by...

After much "revising" this is the final Ebay Gestapo evader, however it took 5 hrs for it to show up in any form of a search. It appears that they sit on certain descriptions until it passes the censors.

    Ebay auction: 280109857382.

We've been here before & as i have stated before that i have studied the ebay phenomenon & one of the glaring problems is the United States Supreme court who have ruled several times that 1) Ebay is a business & can make their own rules 2) That anything that is listed on ebay even if illegal has nothing to do with ebay & they are therefore exempt from several laws we aren't. For instance this means i could put a faked painting on ebay & get $50,000. I could be prosecuted for it, but here's the stupid bit, even if you proved ebay knew the painting was fake they COULD NOT be prosecuted for allowing me to sell it & could keep all the proceeds they made from the sale. This is why ebay don't police their site or allow collectors groups to police it either.
This may be off the topic here slightly but anyone who lives in the States should really write to their senators about this ridiculous situation.
Doubt it would work, so many people have taken ebay to court in The States & even Franklin Mint failed.
      Gets me so angry

I know the question was about buying on eBay, but I still have not figured out why people don't try listing here on the estand first? I put up about one item a week and always price to sell and most of my items don't last a day. If they do stay, I lower the price until it's gone.

I had a couple folks question why I sold so cheap my SA dagger yesterday (for $50 less than it's worth). If I am happy and the buyer's happy, who cares? This has gotten too business like and less hobby like for sure.

That said, I see more and more of people trying to get dealer prices on the estand and listing on eBay will get you closer to that for sure if you survive.

Is eBay worth all the deception in selling just to make a few extra bucks?

I decided to jump in on this after what happened on eBay yesterday. There was a Parade dress bayonet, very early pattern hallmarked blade and the hilt was stamped "RFV" eBay pulled it after less than a day. I can't believe the "RFV" marks would have alerted anyone except someone that knew what these letters represented. . What I think is going on in some of these cases is someone wants the item. Does not want to deal with losing it in a bidding war. They email the seller-ask for photos and then report it to eBay. Ebay then just pulls it without even checking on it. The person then emails the seller and makes an offer for the piece. It is worth the risk and the worst that can happen is the seller relists it.

It is entirely a role of the dice. Right now there is a ground Rohm SS with a "Buy It Now" price, and it has survived the entire length of the auction.

Along the same line as buckle1, there is one other point that has not been brought up...
Last year I listed a 2nd model Luft, and half way through the auction a bidder contacted me. He offered to buy it immediately for a ridiculous price. He futher stated that he knew that if I did not accept his offer, that my auction would be pulled within several hours. I emailed me back and expressed what he could do with his extortion threat.

2 hours later my auction was pulled, and later the bidder emailed me again asking if I would now be interested in selling it directly to him.

I believe there are some that realize the power they have to turn you in. They will contact you for pictures, end your auction and then try to buy it for a lower market value.

The best part is when they send you the form letter , giving their "explanation" and arbitrarily accusing you of "promoting race hatred"
