    Help with Lionshead

I was hoping to find out what the grip insignia is for. Is it possible for a original scabbard to be silver? Sorry for the pictures this is all I've got so any help using these would be great.

    Thanks
    Kenneth

Ok so I believe that the pattern was done by Paul Weyersber. At least that's what I got from Angolia's book "Swords of Germany". I was wondering could this be an export or pre-Thrid Reich sword or, or, or? Any help would be great.

          Hi Ken,
Never seen this particular piece before.

I'd guess that you nailed it. Export is a pretty good hypothesis. I'd guess the piece was produced probably late Weimar era. We often see the plated scabbards with doubel suspension rings during Imperial German manufacturer. Late 20's early 30's would be my guess. Post sharksking grip, clearly manufactured with celluloid, looks like triple strand grip wire. Very interesting langet design. We do see odd langets from PW often, but this one seems as if it's a design deliniating some nationalistic emlbam for another country.

Wish I could offer more. Like I said, I've never seen a saber with this particular langet configuration. Nice looking piece coincidentally.

            Kenneth,

It appears that you have a sword for either Officials or Cavalry of Ecuador. The two ring scabbard was worn by either of these while the sword with a single ring scabbard was worn by Police. Probably made in Germany and exported to Ecuador.

Right on George. Glad you were able to ID it. The langets crest was not something we'd expect to see on a German piece. Export was the best guess.
