    Repro Alcoso Etch

I am sorry that I have to agree that Gary's piece is, indeed, a repro. One dead give away is the wide and uneven edges of the etch. The original Alcoso pieces, and yes there are originals, have a small, distinct edge without the flaws.
IF you check the fake etched bayonets in Wayne Tetch's etched bayonet book, you can see many similarities in repro blade etchings in the bayonets and the Army blade.

These blades are similar to the " FUR LANGJAHRIGE TREUE DIENSTE - DER GENERALSTAB " by Clemen and Jung .
      Also postwar.

        Bob,

For God's sake, how deep do you want the etching to be like ?
If you run your fingers along the etched blade, you will almost certainly brake your nails, geeeeeeeees.

I will admit that the pics that I had before, were slightly enhanced through photoshop and you could not trully appreciate the depth of the engraving.

I have seen many etched blades and I do feel confortable with these 99% of the time.

As for the swaz, well, have you ever taken a look at the swaz on an GO Alcoso crossguard ?
Amost look like if it was done by a blind craftman and yet.......original.

Patrice's dagger is 100% legit and period done. I sold it to him a few years ago and it has been looked at and blessed by better folks than us. It's a shame that some think their candle burns brighter by blowing someone else's out.

I've seen pieces almost identical to Gary's floating around in some stores in California. ACS marked. I pointed one out to a gun store owner and I thought he was going to shoot me for "questioning the legitimicey" of his piece. He just didn't want to hear it. This was the same guy that said that all LF&C Mark 1 1918's are fake.

Etched pieces are a little too dangerous for me. I'm still waiting to hear what the final verdict is on the P.S. etched saber posted on GDC from gunbroker.
