    Goring dagger collection

I am thinking of buying a dagger that is claimed to been part of gorings collection (not a military dagger). It is inventory marked and has his coat of arms on it. Seller is Germania International. Do one dare to trust them?

That's a sketchy proposistion. I would want hard core, concrete provinance on a piece supposedly attributed to Goring or other big name. I know one of his swords sold during the 90s from a US govt auction. It was seized from a large scale narc trafficker. Just be careful on these. More often than not, pieces attributed to big characters turn out to be phony. Recently a musuem in Europe claimed to have had a dagger donated to them by Goebels cousin. Not only did the piece turn out not to be attributed to him, but even better it was a reproduction piece.

    Just tread lightly.

I would strongly suggest staying away from that site and to search it on WAF to see some other topics that have been started on the same.

I'm afraid that site has a little too much Goring stuff over the years for it all to be good, I personally would shy away from such a piece. At the Max show his tables are a sight to behold, some great looking stuff but I would not know if half of it were real or bogus. I have bought from him at the Max show and have been pleased with my purchases but I suggest it may be worth looking at in hand first, I'm not sure where you could compere it with another goring dagger, the one's I have seen whether I thought them good or bad were all different, if you do not know what you are looking at then leave it alone, save your money for something you do know about.

            Cheers

Hello I've bought some nice buckles from him at the Max, but he does seem to have more one of a kind items than any other dealer. Kirby

I agree with the others - tread very very carefully when it comes to items like this.

You need provenance ... and then the provenance needs provenance especially if you are looking at spending lots of cash which I guess you would be to buy something like this.

                  Goring dagger collection

Hi and thanks for all your help and good advice!!
The item in question is a Tibetan dagger said to be a present to Goring from Ernst Schafer after his expedition to Tibet. It is moore of a cultural souvenir. Not of extreme value I think. To the item is a metal badge attached that says "Carinhall Schorfheide G-A-16 Sammlung". On the other side of the badge is Gorings coat of arms. The item is said to have been looted by soldiers in the 101 airborn div.
Also Snyder has these kind of personal items (flatware e.t.c) and even published a book about the looting with photos.
Are these guys really all bad? If that´s the case I think it is remarkable that they can go on year after year selling false stuff claiming it´s original.
Do you know anyone reliable that sells theese kind of personal items?

I think it just depends on what you buy from him. I've never personally bought from him but I know quite a few that have. Some were pleased, others were not. While others ended up with clear repros...mostly badges. Returns were not easy i've been told so a guarantee is as good as worthless.

This is always difficult. IMO most of the pieces with "solid" proof are going from hand to hand only by rich and/or very experted collectors. Most of the time the piece comes from a veteran in hands of such an advanced collector And if he decide to sell it again it usually goes to a fellow collector. Only in a few cases a German person or an American veteran who has something very exotic in his possesion is going with it to an auction house. War time pictures of the pieces are also give some more credits to such a collectible.
Not my cup of tea! Expensive and dangerous if you earn your money with hard working!
