Picked up this salty bayonet marked "41asw" on one side and "1956" on the other side. Was told "41asw" was the year made and the name of the maker and "1956" was the serial number. Both sides of the blade are rather rusty but the rust looks easily removable and it hasn't eaten away at the blade. The "41asw" side has pitting damage but it isn't NEARLY as bad as it looks in the photos. Flash tends to make the worst of things, doesn't it? The other side has no pitting and I am sure once I clean the rust off it will look very nice. Blade has some small nicks on the edge of the sharpened side at the very base, and appears to have been sharpened once long ago. Locking mechanism was rusted locked but a strong push with my thumbs made it moveable again. Scabbard is pitted as well and has almost no original paint. Batonet came in scabbard and fits in there but not well at all. I think once I clear the rust off I won't be putting it onto the scabbard again as this only serves to scratch up the blade further. So there you have it folks! A salty, salty bayonet. Some regard it as junk but personally I like that "been there" look (except for the rust) and I didnt think I could go wrong for only $20. Also, any ideas on how to remove the rust to make this piece as "displayable" as possible?
