    Help wanted (SS-Dagger)

Can anyone tell me if this is a real one, or a copy

It is put up for sale on a danish auction.

How much money is a fair price, for such piece, if it´s a real one?

    Any help would be apriciated.

It has too many problems to be a reproduction. Smashed ball, repainted scabbard, polished blade, an maybe others. It would be nice to see the maker's mark. Personally I would hold out for a cleaner example.

I'm with Snigley...the dagger appears to be of pre-May, 1945 manufacture, but the condition leaves a lot to be desired. The repainted scabbard (looks like it was done with brush!) would make it a hard dagger to re-sell when the time comes.

Unless you are willing to put price before condition (and with the dagger being in an auction, you don't yet know what the price really is), I would pass and look for an unaltered example.

        The Price

The Price for this piece right now is about 300$
Is this a to high price if You look at the condition of this knife?

Hi Flemming, $300 is very cheap, I suspect the dagger will fetch much, much more.
I would agree with the comments made by Skip and Snigley; a look at the makers mark and any group markings or possibly serial numbers to the crossguard would be needed before bidding. See if you can get a photo and post it here.
          Cheers, Ade.

Flemming, the M7/36 marking refers to the E.F. Horster firm. I can't find reference to this firm actually making SS daggers. Maybe someone with a better background can shed some light.

Since most of the guys in the know are at the MAX Show, I posted your question on the GD SS Daggers Forum. You can keep an eye on it here:

                    SS Dagger

Aside from the condition- this is not a dagger you want in your collection.

It appears that this maker never made SS daggers. I wouldn't touch it at any price.
