    Snyder's Treasures - Opinions Wanted

    Hey guys,

I have bought a beautiful, 100% legit short fire bayonet from Charles Snyder of Snyder's Treasures. I have been warned by one member that his reputation is not positive. What are your opinions? Please base them on something solid as I am considering purchasing another item from him. Thanks.

As a general rule; You can buy this type of common item from just about any dealer without too much concern. IMO;The prices these fetch is too modest to interest fakers or crooked dealers at this time.

IF you know what you buy and you know its 100% good, then, well, buy it.

I think the reason why there arent any specific claims of fakes its because theres too much things to point out. Just by having reputable long time collectors here saying "stay away", its enough for me.
      Just my thoughts...

I have seen a lot of dodgey repro items on his site and i personally would not buy anything from him but people do thats what keeps him going on and on..... you would think he would realise what people think about his site by now and stop selling junk/repro rubbish.....Scott.

Nice piece, but it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of it after it's been purchased, as Snyder likely wouldn't honor his return policy if you didn't like it (for any reason). I would have paid more to buy it from someone else rather than perpetuate his business.

Geez, another Snyder shister thread. Why don't you read all of the past threads on this guy? Do some investigating on your own. If you still want to buy stuff from him, go ahead, do whatever you want.

Charlie is like the used car salesman of the militaria world. Example, just check out his "rare" prinzen EKs I wouldn't buy anything from this guy.
                Best regards,

                  Thanks

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback. I guess I will stay clear of him. I did not know about his negative reputation.

Walter, I did try searching but nothing turned up anything of much value to me. He does have questionable pieces on his website but I would always stop short of denouncing someone without having valid background information. That is why I started this thread.

I just can't turn down a opportunity to say that I would personally never purchase anything from him. Even the original items are often cleaned or polished. Just my opinion.

His site is mixed. Good and bad stuff. Unfortunately for him, his reputation precedes him. Typically, you can find comprable piece from other sites with better reputations. We'd like to think dealers honor thier pieces, however not all do.

                        Jan,

I think the piece in question is fine from the picture you show. That is likely due in large part to the profit margin on it being very low & the overall ability of people to find these pieces. That said, you should weigh the reputation of any dealer in 3R stuff very carefully. Mr. Snyder's reputation is far from stellar, I base this on the various horror stories I've read & heard although I've never personally dealt with him. Live & learn.

On another note, what's the maker mark on your new piece? Eick '35-'41?

Yes nothing wrong with the bayonet. I agree Snyders has a mixed bag of stuff, good and bad, so do many others. You need to know what to look for and know your stuff. By avoiding dealers because they get blasted on web sites such as this one, you might miss out on good pieces. Some rather boycot, I rather collect and cast a wider net. You just need to know your stuff...just like e-bay lots of garbage but occasional gems... Same happened here with your score!
                          Congrats with your bayonet!

Someone mentioned in this thread about the possibility of the fellow not honoring a return for any reason if something was sent back. This got me to thinking. If someone buys a high end piece only to learn later it is bad, what are the chances the dealer wouldn't have the coins laying around to make good on the return even though he has a clearly stated "return" policy and lifetime guarantee of authenticity. A ten or fifteen thousand dollar hit could put a big dent in a dealers cash flow. I can imagine most would kick and squirm like crazy and you could count on one hand the number who would say "not a problem" and pull out their checkbook and accept their mistake without making the collector jump through endless hoops in the process. It does make you think

                              Snyder's Treasures....I wouldn't buy from him. Anything.
He's been around a very long time but has a bad rap. Been selling to the unwary a lot of high priced junk for many years. As you can tell by this thread.
He won't do you on a Fireman's bayo, but don't try something over 1K.
Too many horror stories for way too long.
