    Photographic Trickery

Havn't been hanging around much lately in the edged weapons section....and i've been having withdrawls .

Anyway, thought i'd share these 2 photos that illustrate photographic trickery. Often times we see sellers hilighting thier piece for sale with great pics...only to receive the piece and say, "is this the same badge, dagger, etc., that I bought"?

These 2 photos show the difference a decent photo can make. I don't have the fancy photographic equipment like some of our members so no matter how hard I try, my images are still going to be fair at best.

The 1st photo is using a dark background to draw out contrast, and the flash to give the edged of the EK that little sparkle.

The 2nd image is using unimpeded sunlight, with a white background. A clear difference.

I'd like to see some other photographic trickery abilities.

Gilting looks better simply from the contrast in color.

Yea it is an art when you are trying to buy from digital pictures often it is a disappointment often it is a good surprise. Remember to ask the questions to minimize the surprises.

PV- I did. It took some time to find a piece in my range. I opted for a known, easily identifiable example that won't require any debate or excuses. I just need to add 2 more pieces and the KM badges will be behind me and I can move back to edged weapons....my collecting passion.

Well .... it´s the same with most of the top models in this world. Take a look at their photos shot by professional photographers and then compare it to their real look. Pictures can make a huge difference. No doubt about it can be very dangerous to rely just on photos. I´ll try to find an example in my files, which I posted in another forum some time ago.

Yep, got it. Here we go.

Now take a look at this SA dagger. Nice maker mark, nice blade, right?

Same dagger, same blade ... this photo was taken in a slightly different angle and with different light .... ... the beauty blade turns out to be heavily polished and scratched .... well, it´s all about angle and light!
