    Navy Dagger Opinions

Hey guys-- I picked up this nice navy today from a vet's niece. I only have time to post a couple of pics right now, as my wife is screaming something at me about dinner. Who needs food when you have a new dagger?

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thing about the blade. It's unlike anything else I've seen in my references. Is it possibly a WWI blade on a WWII dagger? If I'm not mistaken, the scabbard is a 1st model, right? Perhaps the guy replace the pommels? Any comments and opinions are welcome!

I'll post some more pics when dinner is over. The reddish hue on the crossguard is where the fire gilding wore through to the brass base. The camera screwed the colors up a little.

The blade I believe is called the 1919 pattern. They are found both "double flutted" and "center ridge". They have a longer ricasso. These blades are usually lacking the higher quality. Produced during the Weimar period.

          Hmmm, VERY interesting...

Dont know what to make of it, there was so much part swapping, customizing, and sentimental attachment going on with these navy pieces that anything is possible. It could have belonged to someone who served before and into the TR period, or a father to son traditional "hand me down" kind of thing and updated it for KM. The screws do not look like they've been tampered with any time recently and in my opinion everything is wartime here.

          Very nice!

The scabbard and pommel suggest a WKC product. The blade shape is certainly from an earlier vinatge. What is curious is that the pommel is not the replacement style used to upgrade earlier 1929 pattern daggers. Possibly a 1938 pattern dagger fitted to on a family(Father's perhaps?) blade.

It's nice to see the fittings with that 'copper' patina peeking thru. This high copper patina is also seen on other WKC navies that haven't been cleaned.
