      It's a NPEA student dagger.
      IMO it's a re-pop.

I agree with Wags, a student's NPEA dagger or something that's been made to look like one. IMO, someone's going to take a bath on it since it's over $3K now.

He says a photos worth a thousand words. More like 3 thousand dollars. I would say a good reference is worth a few thousand. The second bidder doesn't know how lucky he is.

              more details if poss

I am still a novice at this game so can anyone point out the red flags on this one please. Its the right maker I believe ? Right colour and motto ? No details or numbers on the crossguard like in the books but is there some other glaringly obvious piece I am missing which will make me look an idiot to all who read this ?

Start with the maker mark & look no further, it's not correct IMO. Similar but not correct. Frog is not correct either. There are several other things I suspect but doubt I can get an answer out of the seller now that it's sold. These daggers are a minefield at best, if you like them I humbly suggest buying one from a reputable source with an inspection period. Here's an original maker mark of the same era.

                  the penny drops

Thanks for the pic of correct logo. I think i see it, much thicker lettering on copy , not crisp and sharp as original ? Its a minefield out there !! It seems if there is the slightest doubt, give it a miss

I'm in total agreement with Billy and Phil.

If you serious about buying an NPEA I would purchase Ron Weinand's latest book on the subject. Then, if possible, handel as many authentic examples that you can.
When you feel you ready to purchase find someone who will examine it for you as a condition of the sale.
I have seen some very good fakes of this model recently...it's truly a "mine field" on these NPEA's.
                    Hint - maker's logo is the 1st place I look...I haven't seen a "Perfect Fake"....yet.

Some daggers are harder to tell than others. That said, NPEAs are some of the hardest to determine if the piece is legitimate &/or not a parts piece IMO. Some very good blade fakes out there by Rex Reddick back in the day, probably some more modern fakes too. I believe Ron Weinand has stated the fakes have the early Bergsmuller with Charlottenburg maker mark. In most cases, it's worth the extra money to buy from a good source.
