    Stag gripped bayonet

I just rec'd this bayonet from a forum member and would like to get some information on the following: 1. Has anyone ever seen a scabbard like this? It is blued not painted and the blade retaining springs -as the photo shows-are set into the throat with a small tab that is used to pull it out if needed. 2. Who is the maker-I have seen the makkwer mark on other blades but cannot find it in any of the literature. the frog did not come with the bayonet but is a very nice Luft. Flak school marked one.

              Bill,

This bayonet is an NS Zeit KS98 made by Paul Seilheimer as their Nr. 11 Hh. The frog is not made for a KS98 but was made for a S84/98. The scabbard appears to be an Imperial scabbard made for a S84/98 and not a KS98 so it is incorrect. Look on the ball of the scabbard and see if you can see an imperial inspection marking in the form of a crowned fraktur letter.

Curious about the grip plates - how are they attached?

Scott, they are attached by rivits-domed on one side, flat on the other.

Thanks - I couldn't see them in the photo.
